The Story of Sheetal and the Safety Circle
π Sheetal was an 8-year-old girl who loved going to school and playing in the park. She was kind, friendly, and always smiling. Her parents and teachers adm joired her good nature. But they also knew that Sheetal needed to learn how to stay safe.
One evening, Sheetal’s mother sat beside her and said,
“Sheetal, today I want to tell you an important story about safety.”
Sheetal listened carefully.
Understanding Who Is a Stranger
Her mother explained,
“A stranger is someone you do not know well. Even if a person looks kind, offers gifts, or knows your name, they can still be a stranger.”
Sheetal was surprised.
“But mama, what if they look friendly?”
Her mother smiled and said,
“Looking friendly does not always mean safe.”
The Safety Circle
Sheetal’s teacher also talked about something called the Safety Circle in school.
She said,
“Your safety circle includes your parents, teachers, close family members, and trusted adults. You should only listen to people inside your safety circle.”
Sheetal drew a big circle in her notebook and wrote the names of people she trusted.
A Lesson in the Park
One Sunday, Sheetal went to the park with her grandmother. While playing, a man came near her and said,
“Hello! I have chocolates in my car. Come with me.”
π§ Sheetal remembered her mother’s words and her teacher’s lesson.
She stepped back and said loudly,
“No! I don’t know you!”
She immediately ran to her grandmother and told her everything.
Her grandmother hugged her and said,
“You did the right thing, my child.”
π What Parents Should Teach Children
Parents play the most important role in child safety. They should teach children:
Never accept gifts, food, or toys from strangers
Never go anywhere with a stranger
Never share personal information like address, phone number, or school name
Always inform parents if something feels uncomfortable
Parents should talk calmly and regularly about safety, not only once.
π§ Role of Teachers in Stranger Safety
Teachers spend many hours with children and must guide them carefully.
Teachers can:
πͺ Teach safety rules through stories and role play
πͺ Encourage children to speak freely
Teach children to say NO loudly
πͺ Explain safe touch and unsafe touch
A safe school environment helps children feel protected and confident.
π€· Teaching Children Without Fear
It is important not to scare children.
Instead of saying,
“Strangers are bad,”
Say,
“Some people can be unsafe, so we must be careful.”
Children should feel confident, not afraid.
